My Legacy

My Legacy
I’m doin this for you
Maybe you don’t see it now
One day you will.
For you
My beautiful daughter
Always been Daddy’s little girl.
Held you in my arms
As you slept on my chest
You don’t remember
But I’ll never forget.
You grew up so fast
In the blink of an eye
A woman stood before me
Where did the time go?
What did I miss?
I did what I could
To give you a good life
But the guilt is still there
Never felt like I was around enough.
Worked a job I hated
Sacrificed a lot
Put aside my dreams
But you were worth it.
For you
My extraordinary son
You’ve always been my protégé.
Gave you my name
The gift and the curse
Always been like your dear old dad
Following in the footsteps of your old man.
I stand back and watch you
Awe-struck by your talent
Couldn’t be more proud of you
The man that I’ve raised.
I made my mistakes
I stumbled and I fell
But I’ve loved you through it all.
Now it’s my time
To find myself
Scared as hell
Don’t want to fail
But Daddy’s gotta do it
And as the tears come
Runnin down my face
I just need to remember
I’m doin this for me
And I’m doin this for you
Daddy’s finally found his ecstasy
These words
And these chords
Next to each of you
They will be my legacy.
