Collateral Damage

Defined as an injury inflicted

On an unintended target

For me – it is something much worse

It is me

It is the definition of me

I am collateral damage

I’ve been used and abused

Over and over

Pulled in

And then pushed away

So many in my past

That I cared so deeply for

Are now only faces in a crowd

People I no longer recognize

They are a blur in the daylight

Should I mourn the lost time?

Should I wish things were different?

Everything in life has ended the same way

They walk out of my life

With a smile on their face

And here I sit

Once again

Collateral Damage.
