Grandpa

Grandpa
Couch puffed up
As she landed
Curiosity on her face
From the book she was handed

Her little hands
Traced over every page
Awestruck and quiet
She was engaged

Flipped through the photos
Read all the quotes
Learned new memories
Studied the notes

So many faces
Some familiar
Some strangers
So oddly configured

Big green eyes
Had a million questions
And he wanted to answer
Every last one of em

He told her the stories
Of years long forgotten
So many good ones
And a few more solemn

Phantoms of a time
That didn’t exist to her
But to him
The time was a blur

A leather bound book
Filled with generations
Bringing together
The most diverse of kin
