The Mother's Delusion

The Mother’s Delusion
A mother’s love
Burns so deep
And oh how I understand
That unending love.
You carried them for 9 long months
You brought them into the world
You held them in your arms
You comforted their wounds
And dried their tears.
That special bond
Shared between the two of you
That no other mortal
Could ever understand.
You build them up
You send them off
Hoping you did right by them.
A mother’s delusion
Believing they are perfect
That they could do no wrong.
Your perfect child
Out in the world
No matter what anyone else ever says
You know they are perfect
Because if they aren’t
That means you failed
And that is just a hit
You cannot take.
A mother’s delusion
How very sad
To be unable to see the truth
To support a child
No matter who they have become
That takes real love
And a mother’s delusion.
